LAURIE’S FULL BIO
Laurie Ruettimann is an author, keynote speaker, and executive advisor who focuses on work, leadership, self-leadership, and corporate power. A former HR leader with more than three decades of experience, she has held national and global leadership roles across staffing, recruiting, HR business partnership, and workforce restructuring, including leading large-scale layoffs inside complex companies in the United States and Europe.
Early in her independent career, Laurie was recognized by CNN as one of America’s top career advisors. That visibility grew out of practical, unsentimental guidance grounded in real organizational life, not aspirational career theory.
Laurie is the author of Betting On You, a critique of modern career advice that argues for self-leadership, professional detachment, and clear judgment inside imperfect systems. She is also a LinkedIn Learning instructor, where her courses on leadership, management, and work have reached millions of learners worldwide. Her work is designed for leaders who value clarity over performance and judgment over trends.
Earlier in her career, Laurie built teams, launched new functions, and advised work tech and HR tech companies on early internet presence, content strategy, and category-defining thought leadership. She also co-founded and sold the first social network for HR professionals. Her writing on work and leadership has appeared in a long-running column and sidebar features for Conference Board Review.
Laurie currently serves as Chair of the Board of the Income To Support All Foundation, advancing research, storytelling, and implementation around unconditional cash income. She also volunteers as an animal foster parent, supporting rescue organizations and fostering cats in need of care and placement.
She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband, Ken, and their cats, Roxy and Spicy. Outside of work, Laurie runs long distances and ultramarathons, often on the trails near home.
In April 2026, she will run the London Marathon to raise money for cats in need. Learn more or donate at https://www.justgiving.com/page/lfr-cats
