Let’s Fix Work changed the podcast game for me. I adore each episode because of the authentic and real life approach Laurie and all of her guests take towards work and fixing work. Work is broken all over the place and Laurie tackles that with guests from all different backgrounds to figure out how we can fix it little by little.

I just listened to the first episode of the podcast, and if Laurie continues to talk to interesting people like Scott, this show should get really popular. Laurie’s unique brand of charm, wit, snark, and delicately-placed eff bombs was applied really nicely to the topic and does not disappoint. I also appreciate that they’re a fairly quick listen.

Through her blogs, Laurie has always been good at spotting what’s wrong in today’s workspaces, and has shared some good ideas on what to do about it. But a 400 word blog post can’t generate the kind of ideas a good conversation with someone who is actively trying to change things can. In her first few programs, Laurie has started strong with people who know what they are talking about. This is not workplace philosophy, but actionable ideas. I recommend this for anyone who manages people, not just HR folks.

What I’ve always enjoyed and responded to with Laurie’s content is that it doesn’t drag on with clenched teeth hoping to make Every. Last. Point. She clearly picks a topic and, in this case, a guest to speak with her about it. Record, edit (edit edit edit) and voilà: point made with some real food for thought layered in. This podcast series retains all of that goodness in its format, provides the listener with real-ish-time topics that benefit all types of listeners. If you work, you should listen.

Laurie has been kicking *** and taking names since her days as the force behind Punk Rock HR. She’s a great storyteller and interviewer, and she’s not afraid to step on some toes to tell it like it is. The information is always useful, and often makes me rethink something I thought was a settled matter before. I’m glad she threads in bits about her personal life and opinions, too. It’s always a value add and one of many things that sets Let’s Fix Work apart from the let’s-hold-hands-and-sing-Kumbaya faux positivity crowd. Laurie keeps it real!

It’s not easy to navigate the choppy waters of how power, privilege, autonomy, technology, identities, etc play at work, but this podcast does it in a way that is both interesting and insightful.
