If you hate your job, if you feel backed into a corner and you don’t have anybody to talk to, whether Human Resources exists in your organization or not, the best thing you can do is to be your own advocate. Be your own agent and embody the best of Human Resources to fix your situation and get yourself into a better position in your life and in your career.
But what is the best of Human Resources, anyway? The best HR departments must be staffed by talent-focused individuals who are experts in the four quadrants of HR. The first is hiring, the second is onboarding, the third is the daily employee experience, and the fourth is the way people exit an organization.
If HR nailed all four of those quadrants, people would love HR!
Moreover, people would fight to work in the world of Human Resources because it would be fun.
When a Human Resources department is allowed to really grow and thrive, they become experts at employee onboarding, retention, and daily experience. When they are able to focus on the employee and put the employee first, the organization becomes a place where many would love to work.
Putting the employee first instills purpose, passion, and perseverance.
If you hate where you are in the world of work, you need to put yourself first and run your life like a business. Take control of your career and be your own HR. This means being your own talent agent, focusing your efforts on making sure you’re experienced in hiring, onboarding your daily employee experience, and ensuring that the way you exit an organization is awesome.
